Zurich in 3 Hours (of Daylight)

After seeing Zurich at night, I got up early the next morning and spent the 3 hours before my flight seeing what things looked like in the daylight.

Zurich at Night

If you ever get the chance to take a layover in a city you've never visited, even for a few hours, do it. I got a recommendation for a great little restaurant and walked around town by myself.

Go There: Isebahnli
Froschaugasse 26, Zurich 8001, Switzerland

I got there kind of late, and had to be rather insistent to get seated... but when I did it was more than worth it.

Reading at the NYPL

I was standing in front of the New York Public Library on the 42nd street side people watching, when this man sat right in the middle of the stairs, lit his cigarette, pulled out his book and started reading.

Exploring the Voice Tunnel

Voice Tunnel ImageVoice Tunnel ImageVoice Tunnel ImageVoice Tunnel ImageVoice Tunnel ImageVoice Tunnel ImageVoice Tunnel ImageVoice Tunnel ImageVoice Tunnel ImageThis summer, as part of the Summer Streets program, the DOT closed Park Ave to vehicular traffic for a few hours over 3 Saturdays. Artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer took advantage of this and set up an installation called Voice Tunnel in the Park Ave Tunnel between 33rd and 40th streets. This is the first time the tunnel has been open to pedestrians in it's 300 year history. Though the line was blocks and blocks long it moved quickly, was perfectly organized, and well worth the wait. Lozano-Hemmer used theatrical lights spaced seven feet apart each with a speaker to create the installation. In the center of the tunnel a call box records the visitors message and repeats it out towards the ends with light intensity to match the recording. To me, part of the appeal was being able to slowly walk through a space that I've only ever seen flying by in a cab.
